History

HISTORY - In the late 1980’s  a small group of individuals and organizations united in their desire for more  training and support in their work to counteract violence in families.

This group included representatives of iwi, community, legal profession, Courts, Police and Manukau City Council.

In 1993 SAFVPN was incorporated to promote training, gather and share information and lobby for social and political change.

By 1995  office space had been rented in Friendship House , a part time administrator appointed and the network had grown to 80.

In 2001 SAFVPN became an Approved Community Service under CYFS to provide Information and Support to the growing network. .

In 2006, under “Te Rito’ funding a Tangata Whenua and  a Tau iwi Prevention Educator were appointed .

Monthly network meetings continue to be the heart of the organization.
